1 Killed, 1 Injured In Metro Transit Bus Shooting

Investigators say a 26 year-old-man got onto the bus while it was stopped and shot two people who were seated.

MINNEAPOLIS — Authorities are investigating after a fatal shooting that happened on a Metro Transit Bus in downtown Minneapolis Thursday evening. One person was killed.

On Feb. 7 just before 9:30 p.m., Minneapolis police responded to a report of a shooting that occurred on the 100 block of North 9th Street. Authorities then learned the shooting happened on a bus.

Officers from the Metro Transit and Minneapolis Police Departments worked together and located the suspect on the 700 block of Nicollet. Police took him into custody and recovered a gun.

Investigators say a 26 year-old-man got onto the bus while it was stopped and shot two people who were seated. The suspect then fled on foot, headed east, police said. No one else on the bus was injured, according to a news release.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene while the other victim suffered critical injuries. He was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center, and he is expected to survive his injuries.

The Minneapolis Crime Lab responded and processed the scene. This is a joint law enforcement investigation with Minneapolis police being the lead agency.

The identity of the victim, along with the nature and cause of death, will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office in the coming days.
