3 Dead After Driver Of Stolen Car Flees, Crashes In Minneapolis

The car fled police early Monday morning before the fatal crash, authorities said.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Three people are dead after the driver of a stolen car fled police early Monday morning in Minneapolis before crashing, police said. Just after 1:40 a.m., officers noticed that a car on Dowling Avenue and Logan Avenue was the same one taken during a forceful carjacking Sunday Morning.

Police said they tried to pull the car over, and but it sped away. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle got "substantially ahead" of the police.

Officers watched as the suspect vehicle lost control near Emerson and 18th Avenue North and began to roll. All three occupants of the car were killed in the crash.

The Minneapolis police officers secured the scene and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was requested to conduct an independent investigation into this incident, according to a news release.

The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting the BCA by reconstructing the crash. Squad video was captured and will be used by the BCA as part of the investigation, authorities said.

The Medical Examiner will release the identities, along with the nature and cause of death, in the coming days.
