Twin Cities homeowners are set to make a significant chunk of change this weekend.

This week, thousands of Minnesotans are offering their homes as short-term rentals to cash in on the surge of out-of-town fans coming for the Super Bowl. Based on the increased prices of Airbnb rentals in the Twin Cities, homeowners are set to make a sizable chunk of change.

Airbnb has been preparing for the Super Bowl surge since February 2017, when it announced "PROJECT 612," an initiative to double the number of hosts in the Twin Cities from 1,000 to 2,000 by Feb. 4, 2018. As of Jan. 23, the size of the Airbnb host community in Minneapolis and Saint Paul was just shy of 5,000 residents.
