MINNESOTA — Clear the calendar, charge the remote, and maybe start hydrating now.
Thursday is shaping up to be a ridiculous day for Minnesota sports fans, with the Wild, Timberwolves, and Twins all playing at home within a few hours of each other.
The Wild get the first crack at turning the night into something special. Minnesota hosts the Dallas Stars at 6:30 p.m. in Game 6 of their first-round Stanley Cup Playoff series, with the Wild leading 3-2 and carrying a chance to close out the series in front of a St. Paul crowd that should be fully unhinged by puck drop.
Ten minutes later, the Twins are scheduled to open a home series against the Toronto Blue Jays at Target Field. On almost any other late-April night, that would be the main event downtown. On Thursday, it is part of the appetizer.
Next, the Timberwolves host the Denver Nuggets at 8:30 p.m. in Game 6 of their first-round NBA playoff series, with Minnesota also leading 3-2 and trying to finish off the Nuggets at Target Center.
That means Minnesota fans could watch the Wild try to advance, flip over to the Twins, and then settle in for a Wolves closeout game that could send Target Center into playoff delirium.
For Minnesota fans, Thursday night has the potential to be either a glorious sports fever dream or a deeply familiar exercise in emotional damage.
