New York Times Features Minneapolis Couple’s $375K Hunt For More Space

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A Minneapolis couple’s search for more space after outgrowing their 888-square-foot Longfellow apartment was featured Thursday in The New York Times’ real estate series "The Hunt."

Sulia Rose Altenberg and Forrest Wasko, both artists and art collectors, had run out of wall space in their apartment, according to the Times. The couple wanted more room for their art, space to host guests, a basement that could work as a studio or flex space, and a garage before another Minnesota winter.

Altenberg works with the Powderhorn Park Rent Relief network, which provides rent assistance to neighbors, while Wasko is a local photographer and arts administrator, the Times reported.

The couple had a budget of up to about $375,000, though they hoped to find something closer to $325,000, according to the report. They were looking for a two-bedroom or three-bedroom home with character, including features such as original hardwood or vintage doorknobs.

The Times featured three Minneapolis homes the couple considered: a three-bedroom 1929 house in Longfellow listed for $295,000, a two-bedroom Victorian home in the Milwaukee Avenue Historic District listed for $325,000, and a three-bedroom 1928 bungalow with a finished basement and two-car garage listed for $325,000.
