Body Found 'In The Ice' In Mississippi River Near Franklin Avenue

Crews from the Sheriff's Water Patrol responded with an airboat, and worked alongside the fire department to recover the body.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police and fire officials notified the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office that they found a body in the ice in the Mississippi River near the Franklin Avenue Bridge just after 12 p.m. Sunday.

Crews from the Sheriff’s Water Patrol responded with an airboat, and worked alongside the fire department to recover the body.

Sheriff’s investigators also responded.

"The ice and river conditions made this an especially difficult recovery," Sheriff Dave Hutchinson said in a news release. "Our water patrol deputies have the equipment they need, but it is still a quite challenging scene."
