Brothers Sentenced to 30 Years for North Minneapolis Home Invasion, Rape

A Hennepin County District Court Judge sentenced brothers Reggie and Deondre Bishop to 30 years in prison for two counts each of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count each of first-degree burglary in a vicious home invasion, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Tuesday.

According to the criminal complaints, about 11 p.m. on July 19, 2015, a 14-year-old girl who lived in a house in North Minneapolis, went downstairs into the kitchen and was confronted by three men with guns and wearing white masks.

They took the girl upstairs and shouted at the girl’s mother, demanding to know where the money was. The men searched for money, then raped both women and eventually left with televisions, a laptop and cell phones.

In court, Reggie Bishop appeared not to take the sentencing seriously, according to a news release.

When the victim gave her impact statement Monday afternoon, she said Reggie “laughed and joked throughout the proceedings. He’ll have [at least] 7,300 days to laugh his way through prison… He’ll have to explain to his children why he’s in prison.”

When speaking about Deondre, the victim said it took her 14-year-old daughter several months before she could describe what had happened to her.

“How does a grown man torture and rape a 14-year-old girl?” the mother asked.

“How do you say ‘Now you know what the bad guys look like…’ Twenty years is not long enough. Every single day, I hope he hates himself.”

In August, Reggie, 32, and Deondre, 31, agreed to a stipulated evidence trial by Hennepin County District Court Judge Jay Quam who found them guilty of the three charges against each of them. A third defendant, Roynell Taylor, 32, pleaded guilty to the same three charges July 18 and was sentenced Aug. 19 to 30 years in prison.
