Child, 6, Found Safe After Car Theft In Minneapolis

​Car thefts and other crimes have plagued Minneapolis neighborhoods this year.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A 6-year-old child is safe after a car theft in Minneapolis Tuesday night. The child was in the backseat of the car when it was stolen at 9 p.m. on the 2900 block of Aldrich Avenue.

Just over 30 minutes later, police found the car abandoned several blocks and the child was inside, police told KSTP.

Car thefts and other crimes have plagued Minneapolis neighborhoods this year.

Minneapolis is piloting a new initiative to decrease violence with "violence interrupters" on the streets in neighborhoods now. Outreach workers for the "MinneapolUS Strategic Outreach Initiative" aim to deescalate situations before they become violent, support behavior change for people at the highest risk for violence and help communities heal.
