City Shuts Down Minneapolis Food Market

Investigators executed a search warrant at the Minneapolis market last week.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The city has shutdown Uptown Locavore, an indoor market in Minneapolis, for not having the necessary food license to sell raw milk and beef. Investigators executed a search warrant at the market last week.

Health Commissioner Gretchen Musicant told the Associated Press it's legal to buy raw milk in Minnesota only if comes directly from the farmer. Officials say the Minneapolis market doesn't have the proper food-related business license.

Operator Will Winter claims the market is a private buyers' club and hasn't had complaints about unsafe food.

"I feel abused and I feel violated and I'm losing money," Winter — who has run the market for 10 years, told KMSP.

The food is under a health embargo but could be returned to the farmers.
