Classic Clip: Mary Tyler Moore Throws First Pitch at Twins Game
It's a uniquely Minnesotan scene: Mary Tyler Moore throws out the first pitch to Ron Gardenhire at a Twins game in the Metrodome.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — People from around the state were shocked Wednesday to learn of the news that Mary Tyler Moore had died. Moore was 80 years old.
For many fans in Minnesota and throughout the country, she will forever be remembered as the young woman with a sunny smile and boundless optimism struggling to make it in the "big city" of Minneapolis.
After starring in "The Dick Van Dyke Show" from 1961 to 1966, Moore became best known for her role in the sitcom titled after her name, "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," which ran from 1970 to 1977.

Set at the fictional WJM news room, she portrayed a single woman on her own, working as a fragile but resilient associate producer for the news show hosted by Ted Baxter, played by Ted Knight.
Mourning her passing, the Minnesota Twins shared a clip of Moore's "first pitch" at a game inside the Metrodome in May of 2002.

Moore is as spunky as ever, taking her time with the pitch, stretching and even "watching" out for first and third base runners looking to steal. Moore then pitches to Twins manager Ron Gardenhire.
