Coronavirus: 60 Cases In Minnesota, 2,336 Tested

Many businesses across Minnesota must close their doors by 5 p.m. Tuesday to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

TWIN CITIES, MN — The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus known as COVID-19 climbed to 60 in Minnesota Tuesday. The cases are now in the counties of Anoka, Benton, Blue Earth, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Olmsted, Ramsey, Renville, Stearns, Wright, Waseca, and Washington.

Eleven days have passed since Minnesota's first COVID-19 case was confirmed. A total of 2,336 patients have been tested so far. No deaths have occurred.

Gov. Tim Walz signed an executive order Monday enacting the temporary closure of all Minnesota restaurants and bars to dine-in customers. He also ordered the temporary closure of public places, including theaters, museums, fitness centers, and community clubs.

Grocery stores were encouraged to remain open, however.

In Hennepin County, some "accused individuals" may be released from pre-charge detention facilities to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Read more.

Jails are also ending social visitations.

Donations

On Sunday, Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns announced he will be donating $100,000 to the Rochester-based Mayo Clinic, which has begun rolling out a test to detect the new coronavirus.

Schools must close Wednesday

While many schools have already closed their doors this week, all must public schools are required to close their doors to students Wednesday.
