Downtown Minneapolis Hot Tub Death Ruled 'Accident'

The 53-year-old woman drowned on the 15th floor of the building where she lived, according to police.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has ruled the death of a Minneapolis woman an "accident." Mary Kathryn Hieb, 52, drowned in a hot tub March 2 on the 15th floor of downtown's Centre Village, a condominium complex where she lived.

Officers and paramedics responded to a call of an unconscious woman found in a hot tub at about 11 p.m. that night. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hieb worked as a registered nurse. "Mary had a loving and caring heart and a special passion for cats," reads her obituary.
