Ex-Cop Kim Potter To Testify In Her Own Defense: Watch Live Now
If convicted of first-degree manslaughter, Kim Potter, 48, faces up to 15 years in prison. She is set to testify in her own trial Friday.

MINNEAPOLIS — Former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter is set to testify in her own defense Friday morning. Potter faces first and second-degree manslaughter charges in the fatal April 11 shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright.
If convicted of first-degree manslaughter, Potter, 48, faces up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine. Second-degree manslaughter carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
In the video of the shooting, which readers should be warned is extremely graphic, Potter yells "taser!" "taser!" before she is heard yelling "I shot him!" Potter apparently meant to draw and shoot her taser but instead fired a round into Wright.

Over the course of the trial, which began Dec. 8, state prosecutors argued that Potter's use of force on Wright was reckless, unreasonable and she — a 26-year veteran of the force — should have known better. They also said that the use of either a Taser or a gun was unlawful.
Meanwhile, Potter's defense team has made the case that her conduct was justified because Wright resisted arrest and drove off, which put the officers in danger. Specifically, they argued that Potter had the right to use either a Taster or a gun in the situation.
The defense team has also worked to show Potter's remorse for shooting Wright.
In a video shown to the jury, immediately after the shooting Potter yells "Oh my God. Oh my God!" repeatedly and lays on the ground, crying.
