Extra Cops Called In To Quell 'Horrendous Violence' In MPLS
Authorities in Minneapolis are working to stem the outbreak in gun and other deadly violence across the city.
MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has called on additional law enforcement agencies to help quell the rash of gun and other violence in the city. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, Metro Transit, Minnesota State Patrol — as well as the FBI and ATF — will provide support to Minneapolis police.
"We're going to restore order," Frey promised at a news conference Monday.
"This can not become our normal," Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo added."The numbers are absolutely unacceptable."

Between May 25 — the day George Floyd was killed — and June 23, at least 111 people were shot in fatal and non-fatal incidents, accord to police data. Seven people were killed by gun violence during that time.
The shootings have occurred across the city.

In Uptown early Sunday, 12 people were shot and one was killed. Police say the shooters began spraying bullets on the 2900 block of Hennepin Avenue South and moved north as people scattered.
"It has to stop," Hennepin County Sheriff Dave Hutchinson said in a statement Tuesday release about the rash of what he called "horrendous violence" in Minneapolis.
"Our communities are engaged in a dangerous spate of violence, disproportionally affecting communities of color. As a community we have enough to grieve about without compounding this with the deaths of young people lost to gunfire or experiencing life changing injuries."
Deadly gun violence continued Tuesday evening.
Just after 6 p.m., the Minneapolis Police Department received a ShotSpotter activation and 911 calls of shots fired in the mid-4100 block of Aldrich Avenue North.
Officers arrived on the scene and were advised that a victim had been taken by private transport to an area hospital.
The victim showed up at North Memorial Medical Center where he later died. Homicide detectives arrived on the scene, interviewed a number of people and gathered video. The suspect fled on foot before police arrived.
