Gamblers Are Betting On Whether Al Franken Will Resign

A gambling website is accepting bets on if the Senator will leave office in 2017.

Speculation over whether Al Franken would resign from the United States Senate began immediately after radio host Leeann Tweeden said publicly Nov. 16 that Franken sexually harassed her while they were on a USO tour in the Middle East.

Franken issued an apology after Tweeden’s and other harassment allegations surfaced. However, the Minnesota Democrat said adamantly at a news conference Monday he would not resign and planned to go back to work in the Senate. But on Thursday, two more women accused Franken of sexual misconduct, one telling CNN that he inappropriately touched her breast as the two posed for a photo, and another telling Jezebel that he "open-mouthed” kissed her.

Whether or not Franken will resign is unknown, but there are gamblers who will stand to make a profit depending on his decision.

Bovada.lv, a gambling website where customers wager on American sports, is currently accepting bets on whether Franken will resign in 2017. "No," Franken will not resign is favored at -2500, meaning a $100 dollar bet would only win four dollars. A $100 bet on “Yes” will net gamblers $1000.

Franken isn’t the only politician featured in a prop bet. According to Time Magazine, Bovada has accepted more than $21,000 worth of bets from people who think President Donald Trump will be impeached.
