George Floyd's 4-Year-Old Niece Shot In Houston

The incident happened early on New Year's Day. Police say someone fired several gunshots into the apartment where the girl lives.

HOUSTON, TX — A 4-year-old girl who was shot while sleeping in her Houston home early on New Year's Day has been identified as George Floyd's niece.

The girl, who was shot in the torso, underwent surgery at an area hospital and is currently in stable condition, according to Houston police.

"My daughter jumped up and said, 'Daddy, I've been hit!' and I was shocked until I seen the blood and I realized my 4-year-old daughter was really hit," Derrick Delane, the girl's father, told Houston news station KTRK-TV.

"She didn't know what was going on. She was asleep."

The incident happened just before 3 a.m. Saturday. Police say someone fired several gunshots into the apartment where the girl lives.

"At this time, there is no suspect description or motive in the shooting," Houston police said in a news release.

Following complaints of a delayed response to the shooting, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner launched an internal investigation.
