Get Free Immunizations In Minneapolis Before School Starts

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis is encouraging people to get their children caught up on immunizations before school starts, and to help it’s offering free immunizations on eight dates in August and September. No need for appointments or insurance. The “MMR” immunization is safe and effective, and it protects against measles, mumps and rubella.

Measles can be dangerous – especially for babies and young children. About one in five people who get measles will be hospitalized.

Measles can lead to pneumonia, brain damage, deafness and even death. Measles spreads easily through coughing and sneezing, and the germs can stick around in a room or a car for hours after a sick person has left.

This year so far, 1,164 measles cases have been confirmed in the United States – the most since 1992, according to a news release.

• Noon-4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21.

• 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29.
• 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3.
• 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4.

The immunizations are provided by NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center. The City of Minneapolis is covering any costs for the immunizations at these events.
