MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Gov. Tim Walz says he spent the weekend trying to convince President Donald Trump that visiting the George Floyd memorial in south Minneapolis — prior to his 2 p.m. rally in Mankato — was a "bad idea."

In a video shared by TPT reporter Mary Lahammer, Walz said using the site of Floyd's death at 38th Street and Chicago as a campaign backdrop would "ignite the pain and the anguish that we’re feeling in Minnesota."

The Trump campaign has apparently followed Walz's advice. Trump spoke at the Minneapolis airport Monday afternoon before departing for his rally in the southern Minnesota city of Mankato, but did not make a trip to the memorial.
