Hennepin County Deputies Recover Body From Mississippi River

Authorities began an investigation after the body was recovered Sunday.

MINNEAPOLIS — Authorities are investigating after a body was found in the Mississippi River in Minneapolis Sunday afternoon. At about 4:15 p.m. on March 1, Minneapolis Public Safety officials asked for help from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office in recovering a body from the river near East 44th Street and West River Road.

Water Patrol Deputies, with the assistance of personnel from the Minneapolis Fire Department, were able to recover the body, which will be turned over to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

"Our investigators will be working with the Medical Examiner’s Office to help identify the person and to determine how the body came to be in the river," Sheriff Dave Hutchinson said in a news release.

"At this point, the investigation is in the very early stages, so we have very little information to go on. We will keep the public informed as we have further information."
