Highest Increase In Homicide Rates: Where Minneapolis Ranks

Homicide rates have risen by an average of nearly 10 percent in 50 of the most populated U.S. cities, according to WalletHub.

MINNEAPOLIS — Though the homicide rate has risen in Minneapolis, it has stabilized compared to other major cities across the United States, according to a new study.

WalletHub recently compared 50 of the largest U.S. cities based on per capita homicides that occurred in the third quarter of 2022, 2021, and 2020.

"Alarmingly, homicide rates have risen by an average of nearly 10 percent in 50 of the most populated U.S. cities between Q3 2021 and Q3 2022, and are still rising," WalletHub notes.

Below are the five cities that saw the highest increase in homicides, and their quarter-three homicides per capita rate:

  1. Kansas City (14.86)
  2. Detriot (13.24)
  3. St. Louis (19.69)
  4. New Orleans (10.99)
  5. Milwaukee (10.46)
