Hurricane Harvey: Target Makes Donation To Aid Recovery

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — In response to Hurricane Harvey's devastating impact on Houston and the Texas coast, Minneapolis-based Target announced Monday it will donate $500,000 to aid recovery efforts. The donation will be distributed various local and national disaster relief organizations, including the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army and Team Rubicon, according to the company.

As Hurricane Harvey made its way to the coast, Target closed more than 30 Texas store locations over the weekend for safety reasons. At least eight people have died in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, which is dumping unprecedented rains in Houston and along the Gulf Coast.

Harvey, now a tropical storm, has dropped up to 40 inches of rain in some parts of Houston and surrounding cities. Forecasters say more is on the way, which means this storm’s totality could be more than 50 inches of rain when it’s all said and done.

"Our distribution and supply chain teams are working quickly to replenish impacted stores," the company said in a statement. "Before the storm, we provided extra products to stores, including batteries, flashlights, cleaning supplies and non-perishable food. Local road flooding and closures are impacting our ability to make some deliveries and in those cases, we’re holding products at our distribution facilities so we can quickly push them out to stores when roads clear."
