MINNEAPOLIS — U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar hung up on one of her colleagues in the House, U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, after a video surfaced last week in which Boebert suggested Omar was a suicide bomber.

Boebert reportedly made those comments on Nov. 20 during a campaign event, which was recorded and posted on Twitter. Boebert apologized Friday and said she wanted to speak with Omar directly.

Omar said the entire story that Boebert told during the campaign event was fake.

On Monday, Omar said she ended an "unproductive call" with Boebert.

"Today, I graciously accepted a call from Rep. Lauren Boebert in the hope of receiving a direct apology for falsely claiming she met me in an elevator, suggesting I was a terrorist, and for a history of anti-Muslim hate," Omar said in a statement.

"Instead of apologizing for her Islamophobic comments and fabricated lies, Rep. Boebert refused to publicly acknowledge her hurtful and dangerous comments. She instead doubled down on her rhetoric. I decided to end the unproductive call."

The Minneapolis Democrat also called for Republican House leader Kevin McCarthy and Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi "to take appropriate action."

Omar is the first Somali American member of Congress, the first woman of color to represent Minnesota, and one of the first two Muslim American women elected to Congress.

Boebert Monday released a video lashing out at "anti-Americanism."
