Key Witness In Derek Chauvin Prosecution Choked Woman: Police

ST. PAUL, MN — A key witness in the state's successful prosecution of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been charged in the assault of a woman.

Donald Wynn Williams, 34, faces charges of felony domestic assault and misdemeanor domestic assault in Ramsey County.

Police say Williams and the woman got into a disagreement outside the Minnesota State Fair on Saturday. Williams then slapped her and choked her, according to investigators.

The criminal complaint also states that Williams resisted arrest.

Williams said he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder related to Floyd's death and Chauvin's trial, according to police.

Williams is a former wrestler and a mixed martial arts fighter. He was among the small crowd of people who watched in anger as Chauvin pinned George Floyd's neck into the asphalt of Chicago Avenue on Memorial Day 2020.

In the trial against Chauvin, Williams told the jury that he called 911 at the scene of Floyd's arrest "because I believed I witnessed a murder."

At one point, Williams yelled at the officers, "Y’all is murderers, bro!"
