Last Gun Shop in Minneapolis Closes

Zoning regulations in Minneapolis and St. Paul made it nearly impossible for gun shops to exist.

The last gun shop in Minneapolis has closed after 20 years.

According to the Star Tribune, Koscielski's Guns and Ammo battled City Hall since it opened in 1995. It was the last full-service gun shop in either Minneapolis or St. Paul.

Zoning regulations in the Twin Cities made it nearly impossible for gun shops like Koscielski's to exist. Meanwhile, in nearby suburbs, gun shops and shooting ranges are experiencing a boom in business.

Owner Mark Koscielski, who was ardent about keeping the gun shop open in his hometown of Minneapolis, said it was the right of residents to buy whatever they wanted, "whether you want to go down to Cub Foods and buy a pound of hamburger meat or if you want to go buy a gun or a case of beer."
