Leech Lake Legacy is a non-profit animal welfare group that is doing wonderful work in Minnesota. Its founders and volunteers have formed respectful, productive, trusted relationships with residents on the Leech Lake reservation to help care for the dogs and cats who live there.
In 2013, the group: held five spay/neuter clinics in which 432 dogs and cats were spayed or neutered; offered physical examinations and vaccinations for 287 animals; transported 858 animals from the reservation and surrounding communities to shelter groups that facilitated adoption to new homes; and, collected/transported thousands of pounds of donated supplies including dog houses, pet food, vaccines and medical supplies.
The group is true testament to the positive impact a few dedicated, resourceful individuals can have.
