What: Judgement Day has at last arrived for Linden Corner, the controversial Linden Hills condo/retail development proposed for the corner of 43rd and Upton. While the neighborhood has loudly and repeatedly voiced opposition to the plan, city staff is essentially recommending the project proceed as proposed. Why? In a nutshell, the staff report says that Linden Corner isn't the only tall building in the core of Linden Hills and that it fits within the city’s long-term land-use plan.
, a proposed senior living facility at 50th and Chowen, will also be discussed at the same meeting. We’ll have the full story Tuesday.

What: to reopen with new chef.
When: Tuesday, Jan. 10, 4:00 p.m.
What: Jack’s at 46th and Grand went into its remodeling cocoon Jan. 3, and will emerge in time for happy hour and dinner service on Tuesday. Along the way, the owners snagged former Barbette chef Kevin Kathman to helm the kitchen of what some are touting as one of the Twin Cities’ new great dining destinations. On Wednesday, we’ll bring you the story of the restaurant’s first night and the surprises Kathman has whipped up.

What: Special election to replace now-Sen. Jeff Hayden.
When: Tuesday, Jan. 10
What: Two months of campaigning are coming to a close for , the DFL candidate, and her independent opponent, , for state House seat 61B. The two candidates squared off sponsored by the Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association and the League of Women Voters.
