Local Minneapolis Newspaper To Cease Publication
Declining advertising revenue and changing demographics were cited as factors in the move.
MINNEAPOLIS — The Journal newspaper — formerly known as "The Downtown Journal" and "The Skyway News" — will cease publication next month. The media outlet, which was started five decades ago, announced Monday that it will end after its Dec. 13, 2018 issue.
The Journal covers local business, development, and government news. The paper, which is free, was bought by Minnesota Premier Publications in 2001.

The Journal said there will be no layoffs involved in its closure. Minnesota Premier Publications' fifteen full-time staff members will focus on The Southwest Journal, which covers residential neighborhoods in south Minneapolis, and its two magazines, Minnesota Parent magazine and Minnesota Good Age magazine.
Minnesota Premier Publications is the latest print company to consolidate resources. In February, publisher Neal Ronquist announced the Woodbury Bulletin office would close permanently.
