Man Fleeing Crime Scene Causes Crash, Kills Innocent Person: Cops

Police say the driver nearly ran over a police officer before causing a fatal crash Wednesday in Minneapolis.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police say a man fleeing a crime scene caused a crashe that killed an innocent person. Trevon Xavier Miguel McMorris, 26, of Brooklyn Park, was arrested after the crash and booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention on probable cause murder.

On Wednesday at 6:20 p.m., authorities responded to a report of two suspicious vehicles possibly engaged in drug activity on the mid-3300 block of Aldrich Avenue North.

At the scene, one of the drivers sped off, nearly hitting an officer who had to jump out of the way.

The officer was able to regain his balance and run back to the squad car. Authorities drove in the direction the suspect was last seen driving.

They soon came across a crash at 36th and Aldrich Avenue North. One officer made an arrest while another provided aid to the victim of this crash. The crash victim was transported to North Memorial Medical Center via ambulance, where he died a short time later, according to a news release.

Police say the preliminary investigation shows the suspect vehicle entered the intersection at a high rate of speed and struck a vehicle that was in the intersection.

Authorities identified the driver of the fleeing vehicle as Trevon Xavier Miguel McMorris.

The name of the deceased will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
