One officer was then confronted by a man pointing a gun at him, and gunfire was exchanged, authorities said.

The officers moved outside, and moments later, someone inside the house told officers that the man with the gun had shot himself, according to investigators.

Officers secured the scene and a woman, boy and girl left the house. A man in his 50s with a self-inflicted gunshot wound was found on the floor, and a gun was recovered, authorities said.

Body cameras were on and active during the incident, according to police. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has launched an independent investigation.
