Emotionally Disturbed Man Starts Fire in Minneapolis

Minneapolis police say they resolved a situation involving a man suffering a mental health crisis.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Minneapolis police say they've resolved a situation involving an emotionally disturbed man who would not leave his home Monday afternoon.

Minneapolis police told Patch that shortly after 1:00 p.m., authorities responded to reports of a man suffering a mental health crisis at his home on the 2800 block of Garfield Ave. S.

Firefighters on the scene extinguished a small fire at the location reportedly started by the man, and police closed nearby streets and set a perimeter around the home.

Police successfully encouraged the man to come outside shortly before 4:00 p.m., where he was brought into waiting ambulance and taken to a hospital.

The man will not be arrested, and streets have since been reopened.
