Man Sentenced In Fatal Hit-And-Run Involving Mobility Scooter

MINNEAPOLIS — A Minneapolis man Friday was sentenced to 50 months in prison, or just over four years, after striking and killing a woman on a mobility scooter in North Minneapolis before fleeing the scene.

Cameron Bendson, 21, pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide on Jan. 4. Bendson received 144 days of credit for the time has already served.

According to the criminal complaint, on Oct. 11 just before 2:30 p.m., Minneapolis police responded to West Broadway Avenue and Aldrich Avenue North in Minneapolis for a reported hit-and-run.

At the scene, officers found a woman in the intersection, laying unconscious. Witnesses told police that a white Jeep Grand Cherokee hit the woman — who was crossing the street in a mobility scooter — before driving away, the complaint says.

The woman was transported to North Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Footage from the scene showed the woman crossing West Broadway Avenue when the Jeep runs a red light and hits her. Bendson was the owner of the Jeep, according to the Department of Vehicle Services.
