Man Who Said God Made Him Kill Friend Pleads Guilty To Murder

Authorities say a man who fatally shot his friend told police that God made him do it.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Anthony Collins, who authorities say fatally shot his friend and told police that God made him do it, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Friday.

Collins, 45, entered a Norgaard plea Friday, where he stated that he was too high on PCP to remember the offense, but agreed that prosecutors had sufficient evidence for a jury to convict him.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 27 and he is expected to receive 270 months in prison, or more than 22 years.

According to the criminal complaint, at about 3:30 p.m. on July 4, police were sent to the 1400 block of Morgan Ave. N., where they found 38-year-old Christopher Porter lying in the front yard.

He was bleeding from a chest wound and died a short time later at the hospital.

Police also saw Collins walking around the yard, talking about God and killing and finally saying that “God told me to kill him,” authorities say.

Police found a .44 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun on the ground near where Collins was arrested, according to a news release.

Witnesses said that Porter lived at 1415 Morgan and Collins would visit regularly because they were long-time friends, the complaint states.
