Michelin Guide Expands To Minneapolis, Ratings Coming In 2027

Inspectors are already visiting Minneapolis restaurants ahead of 2027 rankings.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Minneapolis will be included in a new regional edition of the MICHELIN Guide, marking the first time the city’s restaurants will be eligible for its globally recognized ratings.

The newly announced “American Great Lakes” guide will cover six cities, including Minneapolis, with inspectors already visiting restaurants ahead of the inaugural rankings in 2027.

“This is a defining moment for Minneapolis. We have the talent, cultural diversity and quality to stand with any culinary destination in the world,” said Melvin Tennant, President and CEO of Meet Minneapolis.

“We are excited to finally be putting a stake in the ground in the Great Lakes region, spotlighting the talent and food cultures across these six great cities. Our anonymous Inspectors have begun canvassing these cities for impressive culinary talent and are eager to share their experiences with you in the inaugural selection next year.”

The expansion also includes Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland, Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh.

Michelin’s anonymous inspectors are already dining across the region, evaluating restaurants based on criteria such as product quality, cooking technique, flavor harmony, and consistency.

Restaurants can earn distinctions including one, two or three Michelin stars, Bib Gourmand recognition for value, and Green Stars for sustainability.

Officials say the move could elevate Minneapolis from what has often been described as a "best-kept secret" dining destination into a city with global culinary recognition.

The inaugural restaurant selection for the Great Lakes region will be revealed in 2027.
