The man recruited a 14-year-old to engage in commercial sex acts in hotels, federal authorities said.
MINNEAPOLIS — A 42-year-old Minneapolis man was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison after he was convicted in the sex trafficking of a minor, U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger announced last week.
Charles William Dexter III pleaded guilty to the charge on Sept. 6, 2022. After his prison sentence, he will be under supervised release for 15 years.
"January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month and cases such as this represent our ongoing commitment to investigating and prosecuting those who exploit human beings, and in this case minor victims, for financial gain," Luger said in a news release.

In August 2020, Dexter recruited a 14-year-old to engage in commercial sex acts for his benefit, according to authorities.
Dexter placed ads for sex online, including on Megapersonals.com, investigators said. The acts would take place in hotel rooms, according to authorities.

After the appointments for commercial sex, Dexter collected half of the proceeds from the teen, investigators said.
"Combatting sex trafficking is a top priority for Homeland Security Investigations," said Jamie Holt, an agent with Homeland Security.
"Our agents will continue to focus on fostering safer communities by protecting and supporting sex-trafficking victims and bringing people like Dexter to justice."
