Minneapolis Mosque Vandalized, Cameras Broken

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A Minneapolis mosque was vandalized Sunday morning after its security cameras were ripped off the walls, CBS Minnesota reports.

Security footage from the Dar Al-Qalam Cultural Center in Northeast Minneapolis shows a man removing cameras and smashing them at around 2:40 a.m. on Sunday. The man fled after about five minutes.

Abdifatah Abdi, the mosque’s executive director, told CBS News that he believes the man on camera also broke into several cars near the mosque, including his own, earlier this month.

In April, a vandal broke a window, and spray-painted “Death to Islam,” “Go to hell”, and a red swastika onto the walls of the Moorhead-Fargo Islamic Community Center. In October 2020, another vandal committed about $20,000 worth of damage to the school of the Dar Uloom Islamic Center in the St. Paul neighborhood of Dayton’s Bluff.
