Video Shows Donald Tump Effigy Burned at Minneapolis Protest

Minneapolis police continue to monitor anti-Donald Trump protests in the city Friday.

Update: 5:25 p.m. – Minneapolis police said on Twitter that a group within the protest has set off "a few smoke devices on the light rail tracks." MPD said they are "monitoring" the group.

4:40 p.m. – Protesters are moving eastbound on 12th St towards 3rd Av S. Police estimate the group to be about 1,000 people in size. There have been reports of fireworks coming from the group, according to authorities.

3:40 p.m. – Minneapolis police say one of the protest groups burned a mannequin at Franklin and Nicollet avenue. The protesters stopped marching near Franklin Avenue.

3:05 p.m. – Police say traffic at Franklin and Nicollet avenues is blocked as the two protest groups join up with another group. Traffic is free flowing on Park Avenue and Portland Avenue South.

2:50 p.m. – A group of protesters on Lake Street is now northbound on Nicollet Avenue from 28th St. Nicollet Avenue traffic is being diverted to Blaisdall Avenue and other major roadways. Police say Franklin and Chicago avenues are still blocked.

2:25 p.m – Lake Street was temporarily closed to vehicle traffic from I-35W to Blaisdell Avenue as a third protest group began to march. Police estimate a total of 400-500 protesters at this point. Motorists should use alternate roads.


2:30 p.m. – Police say Franklin Avenue and Chicago Avenue is blocked as two protest groups merge and will continue westbound on Franklin Avenue.


2:22 p.m. – Police said on Twitter that a group of about 300 protesters are at Franklin Ave at 14 Avenue South currently. Traffic is being diverted. Police ask motorists to use alternate roads and to stay off Franklin Avenue from Cedar Avenue to Nicollet Avenue.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Minneapolis police said shortly after 2 p.m. Friday they are monitoring protests that are occurring in the city right now. Police expect traffic delays on Nicollet Avenue between Lake Street and Franklin Avenue.

Most of the protesters appear to be demonstrating against President Donald Trump. WCCO reported that a group called the Resist from Day One Coalition is among the protesters.
