Minneapolis Police Shoot, Kill 1 While Executing Warrant

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after a Minneapolis police shot and killed a man Wednesday while executing a warrant in downtown Minneapolis.

According to police, at 6:48 a.m., the Minneapolis Police SWAT Team executed a warrant at a unit on the 1100 block of Marquette Avenue South. The warrant was being executed on behalf of the St. Paul police homicide investigations team.

"Officers gained entry to the target apartment on the seventh floor, loudly and repeatedly announced their presence, crossed the threshold of the apartment, and advanced with continued loud announcements of their presence," the Minneapolis police said in a news release.

According to authorities, 9 seconds after police entered the apartment, they were confronted with a man who was pointing a gun at the. Police shot and killed the man.

Officers were wearing body-worn cameras, and Interim Police Chief Amelia Huffman has reviewed the footage, authorities said. Police have no plan to release the footage, however.
