The standoff began when a mother of two young children reported that someone had fired a gunshot into her apartment, police said.

MINNEAPOLIS — State authorities are investigating after Minneapolis police shot and killed a man in his 20s following an hours-long standoff at an apartment complex Thursday morning.
At about 4:30 a.m., two officers fired their weapons, striking the suspect. The man was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died. It's not yet clear why the officers decided to shoot at that time.
According to police, the standoff began six hours earlier when a mother of two reported that someone had fired a gunshot into their apartment, located at the 900 block of 21st Avenue South.
