Minneapolis Will Enforce Curfew Thursday Night

A violation of the curfew is a misdemeanor offense and is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 or prison for up to 90 days.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey Thursday announced a curfew for the second day in a row in response to the violence and vandalism that broke out in downtown Wednesday night.

Residents will not be allowed to travel on public roads or in public areas. People traveling to and from work, or seeking safety or refuge in an emergency situation, are exempt. Media members are also exempted from the curfew.

Gov. Tim Walz declared a peacetime state of emergency in Minneapolis and deployed the Minnesota State Patrol and National Guard in response to "unlawful and dangerous looting and violence" downtown.

Troopers and Minnesota Department of Conservation officers arrested 33 people overnight.
