Minnesota ranks on the top of a new list of states with the best health care​ in 2016.

Minnesota offers the best health care in the county, according to a new report.

According to personal-finance website WalletHub, Minnesota ranks on the top of the list for states with the best and worst health care.

In order to determine which states offer the most cost-effective and highest-quality care, analysts compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 29 key metrics.

The data set ranges from average monthly insurance premium to number of physicians per capita to percentage of adults and children with health-insurance coverage.

  • 1st – Average Monthly Insurance Premium
  • 25th – Number of Hospital Beds per Capita
  • 14th – Number of Physicians per Capita
  • 23rd – Number of Dentists per Capita
  • 3rd – Physician Medicare Acceptance Rate
  • 5th – % of Adults Aged 18 to 64 with Health Insurance
  • 20th – % of Children Aged 0 to 17 with Health Insurance
  • 3rd – % of Adults Without a Dental Visit in Past Year
  • 29th – % of Medical Residents Retained

Neighbors South Dakota and Iowa also scored high on the list, joining Minnesota in the top five:

1. Minnesota
2. Maryland
3. South Dakota
4. Iowa
5. Utah

Wisconsin ranked 24th on the list.

According to the report, the states with the worst health care are:

47. Arkansas
48. Nevada
49. Mississippi
50. Louisiana
51. Alaska
