Minnesota School Closings For April 16, 2018

Here are the latest delay, closure, and cancellation updates from Minnesota schools for Monday.

TWIN CITIES, MN — Following a historic April snowstorm, a number of Minnesota schools will be closed Monday, April 16. Districts that will be closed or delayed Monday include (but are not limited to):


All Saint Paul schools will be closed, and programs, activities and events canceled on Monday, April 16, because of the weather, officials announced Sunday.

Minneapolis Public Schools will be closed on Monday, April 16. All district offices, including the Davis Education Center and the Student Placement Services Office, will be closed. Minneapolis Kids sites will be closed and all Minneapolis Community Education evening classes are canceled as well. All athletic and school-sponsored activities are canceled.

According to Minneapolis school officials, the decision was made because:

• Buses will likely be unable to drive on side streets
• Possible shortage of contracted bus drivers
• Small kids may be difficult to see behind snowbanks
• Significant delays could leave kids standing outside unattended for too long


Orono Public Schools will start classes two hours late on Monday, April 16. Daycare and school-age child care will also open two hours late; morning preschool will run on schedule.


Due to heavy snow and unplowed portions of the district, all Anoka-Hennepin schools will be closed April 16. School or district-sponsored after-school and evening activities are also canceled.


"Please know it is our desire to keep students in school and learning, and at this time it is our intent to hold school as scheduled on Monday, April 16," Stillwater Area Public Schools said in a statement Sunday. "We will be watching the weather overnight and be out checking road conditions early in the morning. Should there be a change to our schedule we will notify you as soon as possible in the morning."

"Ultimately, if you are concerned about sending your child(ren) to school we only ask that you call the school to report your child’s absence. We do ask for your patience tomorrow morning as we know road conditions can vary greatly across the district, and we may experience some busing delays."


Osseo Area Schools: Due to the weather and road conditions, school will be canceled on Monday, April 16. After-school-evening activities are also canceled. School will resume as usual on Tuesday.


All Hopkins Public Schools will begin two hours late Monday. Kids and company and Stepping Stones Preschool will open at the regularly scheduled time.

There will be no morning Ready 4 K or Kaleidoscope Preschool, no morning Early Childhood Family Education and no morning Early Childhood Special Education classes. All before-school activities are canceled.


Cannon Falls Schools will be two hours late April 16.
