Minnesota Weather: Heat Advisory Issued For Metro Counties

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL METRO AREA, MN — The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Hennepin, Anoka, Ramsey, Washington, Carver, Scott and Dakota County.

The advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

Weather officials say to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Kids and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside, and reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

If you work outside, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothes, and take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

Watch heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, so call 911.

Thursday Afternoon: Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 99. East southeast wind around 5 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 70. East southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Friday: Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 96. Calm wind becoming east northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.
