Minnesota Weather: Wind Chill Advisory Goes Into Effect Tonight
"Dangerously cold wind chills" arrive in Minnesota tonight, according to the National Weather Service.
TWIN CITIES, MN — A wind chill advisory for central Minnesota and the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area will go into effect from 9 p.m. Tuesday evening to Wednesday at noon. Residents should at the very least wear a thick coat, hat, and gloves whenever going outside.
Weather officials say the "dangerously cold wind chills" can cause frostbite on exposed skin in 20 minutes.
Counties in the advisory area include Mille Lacs, Kanabec, Sherburne, Isanti, Chisago, Swift, Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Meeker, Wright, Hennepin, Anoka, Ramsey, Washington, Renville, McLeod, Sibley, Carver, Scott, Dakota, Polk, Barron, Rusk, St. Croix, Pierce, Dunn, Pepin, and Eau Claire.

Some light snow may fall as well.

"Very cold wind chills of 25 below to 35 below zero are expected through Wednesday morning across central Minnesota and western Wisconsin," says the National Weather Service.

"A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect for much of central Minnesota through western Wisconsin north of a line from Montevideo and Red Wing, Minnesota to Eau Claire, Wisconsin."
Here's the NWS forecast for the Twin Cities metro are:
Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around -11. Wind chill values as low as -23. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
Wednesday: Increasing clouds and cold, with a high near 4. Wind chill values as low as -23. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon.
Wednesday Night: A 50 percent chance of snow, mainly after midnight. Cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 9 by 5 a.m. Calm wind becoming east southeast around 5 mph after midnight. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Thursday: Snow likely, mixing with freezing rain after 11 a.m., then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 23. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13. Calm wind.
Friday: A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 30. Calm wind becoming south southeast around 5 mph.
Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 13. Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 10 mph in the evening.
Saturday: A 40 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 11 by 5pm. Northwest wind around 10 mph.
Saturday Night: A 20 percent chance of snow before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around -4. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 7. West northwest wind around 5 mph.
Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around -2. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 18. Calm wind becoming west southwest around 5 mph.
Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 6. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph.
Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 20. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.
