TWIN CITIES, MN — The Twin Cities official hit 40 degrees Tuesday, and it might as well have been 70 degrees for how residents were celebrating.

The balmy temperatures will last through Thursday, but things will nosedive on Friday when the low will be about 0. Saturday's high will be 9 degrees, with a low at 2 degrees below zero.

Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of snow before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 24 by 5pm. Northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 8. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of snow after noon. Increasing clouds, with a high near 35. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Thursday Night: Snow before 9pm, then rain and snow. Temperature rising to around 37 by 2am. Breezy, with a south wind 15 to 20 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday: A slight chance of rain and snow before 10am, then a slight chance of snow between 10am and noon. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 22 by 5pm. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 1. North northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 9. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around -2. West wind around 5 mph becoming south in the evening.
