Nygel Witherspoon Takes First at 22nd Annual Sphinx Competition
National competition brings together best, brightest string musicians.
Nygel Witherspoon, a senior at Minnesota Connections Academy, recently earned first place at the 22nd Annual Sphinx Junior Division Honors Concert held at Detroit's Fischer Music Center!
Open to American Black and Latino junior high and high school students, the Sphinx Competition is aimed at the encouragement, development and recognition of classical music talent in the Black and Latino communities. According to the Detroit Free Press, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Sphinx competition attracts the best and brightest string musicians.
Witherspoon receives a variety of performance opportunities, including a nationally-broadcast radio appearance on From the Top for top honors.
