Plummer, Now an Olympic Champion, Returns to the University of Minnesota

The 30-year-old former Gopher swimmer returned to the campus for the first time since winning a gold medal at the Olympic games.

Former Minnesota Golden Gopher swimmer David Plummer returned to the United States from Brazil as an Olympic champion, claiming a bronze and gold medal in two swimming events at the games in Rio.

Plummer, 30, took bronze in the men's 100 meter backstroke and gold in the 4 by 100 meter medley relay.

Plummer's relay team included swimming legend Michael Phelps, who indicated the relay will be his last Olympic event of his career.

Plummer took time Friday to visit his old stomping grounds at the University of Minnesota campus:

Plummer, a native of Oklahoma City, came to the University of Minnesota in 2005. He was a 14-time NCAA All-American and eight-time individual NCAA finalist before graduating in 2008.

Plummer currently coaches swimming at Wayzata High School.
