Minneapolis police recovered a total of nine guns in the Fourth Precinct last week.
So far this year, 212 guns have been placed into evidence in the Fourth Precinct (guns used to commit crimes or possessed illegally).
A total of 448 guns have been recovered citywide this year.
Minneapolis police told Patch that guns recovered can come from a traffic stop, a 911 call for service or something that is turned in.
Most of the guns recovered last week were taken by officers while on traffic stops and 911 calls. The guns are taken to the police property room and inventoried.
Any gun that is not returned through an order of the court, or if the gun cannot be given back to the rightful owner, is melted down.
