Rep. Ilhan Omar Praises Biden Administration For Raising Refugee Cap
The Minnesota Democrat said that the United States "should be opening our doors to those fleeing oppression."

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Ilhan Omar praised the Biden Administration Thursday for raising the annual refugee cap to 125,000 people.
Last year, Biden capped refugees at 62,500, which was up significantly from the Trump administration's cap of 15,000.
Omar, who immigrated to the U.S. as a refugee from Somalia said that "for centuries, America has been a beacon of hope to millions fleeing oppression around the world."

"At a time when more people are displaced than any other time in human history and conflicts rage in Ukraine, Yemen, Ethiopia, and Afghanistan, we should be opening our doors to those fleeing oppression," Omar added.
However, the Minnesota Democrat noted that in 2021, "the U.S. failed to come close to meeting the refugee cap, partly because of the decimation of the refugee resettlement program under Donald Trump. I hope we do everything in our power to resettle as many migrants as possible in the coming fiscal year and look forward to working with the Administration to make that happen."
