Reports: Beer, Wine at Bread & Pickle Gets Council Panel's OK
The Lake Harriet bandshell concessionaire could start serving alcohol within weeks, according to the Star Tribune and the Southwest Journal.

The Minneapolis City Council's Regulatory Energy and Environment Committee approved plans Monday for concessionaire Bread and Pickle to serve alcohol at Lake Harriet, according to local news outlets
The Southwest Journal reported that it has been a long journey
Owner Kim Bartmann has been working with city and Minneapolis Park Board staff for over a year, she said, and hopes to soon offer a half-dozen tap beers and a few wine options.

The city’s vote came after the Minneapolis Park Board had debated Bartmann’s plan during two meetings in April. Bartmann plans to have seating for 133 patrons and, with the city’s urging, will set up a perimeter with planters.

The Star Tribune reported some opposition in the council chambers:
“This area is going to be taken over by the drinking crowd. Period,” said Bob Carney, a perennial candidate for mayor and other offices.
“I fear that cluttering up the area with the required planters will create barriers and congestion for parents with kids in strollers, people walking dogs and individuals who may be using wheelchairs or scooters,” said Arlene Fried, a founder of the watchdog group Park Watch.
Both the Southwest Journal and the Star Tribune quoted Ward 7 City Council Member Lisa Goodman as saying: "This is [the park board's] decision to make and we are not in a position to be overriding them on a close vote. ... That seems a little political to me.”
The full city council is set to vote May 10.
