Armed Standoff In South Minneapolis After Deputies Fired Upon: Sheriff

Authorities said they were negotiating with an armed man in south Minneapolis after deputies were fired upon while serving a warrant.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Authorities were negotiating Tuesday afternoon with an armed man in south Minneapolis after Hennepin County sheriff's deputies were fired upon while trying to serve an arrest warrant, officials said.

The incident began in the area of West 28th Street and Nicollet Avenue, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said deputies were attempting to serve the warrant when they were fired upon. Minneapolis police responded to help secure the scene.

In an update at 1:08 p.m., the sheriff's office said law enforcement was negotiating with an armed white male in the area.

Authorities asked the public to avoid a large area bordered by West Lake Street, Franklin Avenue, Interstate 35W and Lyndale Avenue South.

The ATF's St. Paul Field Division said its agents are assisting at the scene.

No arrest had been announced as of early Tuesday afternoon. No injuries have been reported.
